Woke up this morning to a Nightingale in full song in bushes behind field at back of garden, superb, only the second time I've heard them from the house. Just the Golden Oriole next ?!!

A fine morning and a new bird for the garden list in the form of two Red legged Partridges. A Grey is too much to hope for but maybe the recently ploughed field at the back will hold more as springtime progresses.

The local Barn Owls have been very active over the last few weeks, but never when I had the camera to hand. Luckily, this morning, this one miscalculated and sat on a post just long enough for me to fire off a snap.
Two Swallows have returned to Harvestile Farm and look as though they are going to nest in the garage again. A single Chiffchaff has been singing at the back of the garden for the last few days, but no sound or sight of any Willow Warblers yet.
The Birdless Cuddesdon debate over Woodpigeons and their irregular pupils (not a school). This one isn't too bad but they do tend to vary considerably.
And sometimes they are just downright shy about showing you.

No birds !

A really nice Spring day and despite working all day managed a quick trip to the beach at 5pm then to Pentney Lakes, but the Jet Skis had been active and the only birds that were there had been pushed down to the east end, and no sign of any gulls. So this Sanderling at Brancaster was the best for the evening.

These Jackdaws hanging off the feeder help add fuel to the fire of the Birdless Cuddesdon Blog that it's only Woodpigeons with odd shaped pupils, these are perfectly round !

Garden Trash !

Birds in the garden have started using the feeders in ernest again but so far they don't like me pointing my camera at them ! This is the only one to stick around so far.
There was however an adult Mediterranean Gull on Pentney pits this morning so while it was too far off for a photograph, it certainly takes the crown over the above ! Also present were seven Great Crested Grebes, Little Ringed Plover, and three Redshank.

A look in the garden pond reveals far fewer tadpoles than a week ago. Hopefully meaning there are plenty of hungry carnivores also in the pond.

I have found identifying this Diving Beetle difficult, the only one I've really known before is the big black chap (Dytiscus), and only then because it tried landing on the bonnet of the car. Apparently they do this as the reflection looks like water. The one above I believe to be Acilius, and a male due to it's smooth wing cases, unless someone can tell me different.
